Lowe’s Companies, Inc.

During the summer of 2022, I had the privilege of interning at Lowe’s as a copywriter intern. During my experience, I wrote and edited content for lowes.com. Some of this content included SEO blocks, alt text, banners and promos, along with editing category and branding pages. I worked on just about all of Lowe’s product categories that ranged  from sports and outdoors to hazardous materials and indoor lighting.

My internship also involved a group project. I worked with another intern in User Design (UX) to reimagine how Lowe’s presents DIY projects to customers. From my SEO research using seoClarity, I found Lowe’s was behind the competition with advertising DIY projects that were child friendly. Working with my partner, I decided to create easy-to-understand project cards that would live on lowes.com  and also be physical flyers in stores. These project cards include multimedia elements such as pictures and videos, along with a  summary and required materials. I then made the projects easy to understand by including simple step-by-step instructions and using bullet points. For in-store customers, our project cards include QR codes that direct people back to lowes.com for additional information. From user testing, we found customers loved our work. They liked the easy instructions and multimedia components. Customers also said they felt nostalgia for their childhood and were interested in completing these projects with their children.

I then presented my project and findings to senior leaders across the company. Overall, they were very impressed with not only my work but also the interactive nature of my presentation. Using my journalism background, I made my presentation interactive by including polls and emojis, which kept everyone’s attention and made it more fun. I have included some work samples below.
