Fox News Channel

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to work at Fox News Channel as a virtual college associate for nearly a year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I worked with production teams in both New York City and Washington, D.C. I helped cover a wide range of topics from businesses and the markets to the 2020 presidential election and COVID. I wrote broadcast scripts, edited VOs and SOTs and built custom graphics (full screens, banners and locaters). All of these tasks were completed with production software such as iNews, Viz Pilot, Dalet and Adobe’s Creative Suite. I also gained experience with management software such as Workday, Slack, Amazon WorkSpaces and Microsoft Office.

My internship at Fox News Channel would not have been possible without the first opportunity they gave me over the summer of 2020. I was assigned to a team with four other interns to create an 8-minute intern newscast. I was the producer, which meant I wrote, edited, and stacked the newscast. Our show was called Fox-z, and it is geared towards millennials, which meant  we decided to go with a mobile-focused show. That meant using vertical video instead of horizontal footage and keeping the show fast-paced.

After a few weeks in the program, a producer from “Fox News @ Night” noticed my performance and invited me to not only join the team for the remainder of the summer program but also for the fall. So from July 2020 through December 2020, I worked with the production team based in Washington, D.C. I cut VOs and SOTs and searched for B-roll through Viz and Ardome. I edited that video with Easycut and created graphics using Viz. I then dropped those elements  into the show’s rundown with iNews.

As the fall neared, our team lost some employees. Since my boss liked my performance over the summer, he gave me more responsibilities as we began covering the presidential election. Besides doing the usual editing and writing tasks, I was assigned to cover former President Donald Trump. That meant I monitored campaign events, transcribed speeches and searched for/edited photos of him on the campaign trail for newscasts. I even had the incredible opportunity to cover President Trump during both of his debates and helped produce that special coverage.

During the spring of 2021, I worked with the New York production team on business news. My primary responsibility was producing the daily Biz Report. This program is an approximately two-minute video that highlights the markets, breaking economic news and overall business outlook. Most of my stories covered inflation and the housing market, but I also spent a large amount of time covering the Dow Jones Industrial Average, oil prices and unemployment numbers. Towards the end of the week (Thursday and Friday) I focused more on producing for “Cavuto Live”. I was responsible for helping producers edit B-roll that would play as guests and anchors discussed the news.

I have included several work samples from my time at Fox. Unfortunately, I could not include anything from the Biz Report because of copyright, but I was able to include my intern newscast and work from “Fox News @ Night”.
